The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange processing for the national team’s match bonuses at the ongoing AFCON 2025.
Hon. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of State Finance, confirmed to Okay News on Thursday that all group-stage bonuses have cleared the necessary regulatory stages and are currently being disbursed. This administrative intervention ensures that the players are rewarded promptly through their domiciliary accounts without further delay.
To facilitate these payments, a fast-track conversion process has been implemented to move funds into foreign currency in accordance with the preferences of the players.
The final transfers are currently in progress, with funds expected to reflect in the players’ accounts starting as early as today. This new system is designed to align future disbursements with international best practices, ensuring faster and more predictable payment schedules for the national team.
The government emphasized that its primary focus remains on supporting the welfare of the Super Eagles to help them maintain their momentum during the knockout rounds of the tournament. By resolving these financial administrative hurdles, the Ministry of Finance aims to provide a stable environment for the team as they compete on the continental stage.
The ultimate objective remains focused on providing the necessary backing to help the team bring the trophy home to Nigeria.
