Okay News reports that officers of the Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday foiled a robbery attempt in the Sagamu area of southwest Nigeria, recovering a black Lexus GS 350 used by the fleeing suspects.

According to a statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. after a distress call was received from the Chairman of the Community Development Council in Okearedi, Araromi, located off the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway.

Odutola explained that about five suspected robbers attempted to force their way into a residential building in the area before police officers from the Sakura Division swiftly intervened.

“A smart intervention was immediately coordinated by operatives of Sakura Division, but on sighting the patrol team, the hoodlums fled in different directions, prompting a hot chase by the police,” Odutola said.

She added that the suspects abandoned their operational vehicle — a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT — at the entrance of the community while escaping the scene.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several fireworks (knockouts), which police suspect were intended to distract residents and security personnel during the operation.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo, praised the officers involved for their swift response and professionalism, emphasizing that such proactive measures were key to maintaining public safety as the festive season approaches.

He revealed that the command had intensified security patrols and reinforced personnel deployment to identified flashpoints across the state as part of its end-of-year crime prevention strategy.

Ogunlowo urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious, particularly when returning home late at night, and to ensure their surroundings are well-lit to deter criminals.

He also encouraged residents to follow the command’s verified social media pages for real-time security information and updates.

In a similar case earlier in June 2025, the Ogun State Security Network, known as Amotekun, foiled another robbery attempt in Akinale town, Ewekoro Local Government Area, where a 28-year-old man was shot before operatives rescued him following a swift response to a distress call.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects linked to the latest Sagamu robbery attempt.
