Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has nominated the state’s former Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Manir Dan’iya, as his deputy.

The state has been without a deputy governor since the resignation of Ahmed Aliyu about two weeks ago.

Aliyu is the governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 governorship election.

In a letter sent to the State House of Assembly which was read at the plenary session on Wednesday, the Sokoto state governor said his nomination followed the voluntary resignation of his former deputy.

Governor Tambuwal said the nomination was in line with section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 constitution.

The speaker of the House, Salihu Maidaji, directed the Clerk of the House to invite the nominee for screening.
