The Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Josiah Kente has resigned his position. Sources close to him said the speaker referred to “pressures” to step down.

Kente told journalists on Monday in Jalingo he had sent his letter of resignation to the clerk of the assembly.

He said he took the decision in the concern of peace in the state.

“I write to tender my resignation as the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Jalingo from today, the 24th of November, 2014. My resignation is personal. I want to seek this opportunity to serve as Hon. Speaker for the past one year. I pledge to remain loyal and would always contribute my best to the well-being of the Hon House,” he said.

He thanked the people of the state and members of the seventh assembly for their cooperation during his one year tenure as speaker.

The new helmsman for nominated by the member representing Zing, Kizito Bonzina John, and seconded by the representative of Bali 2, Hammadama Abdullah.

It was gathered that Kente threw in the trowel to escape being disgraced as impeachment plans had thickened against him though cited personal reason for his decision.

Kente is younger brother to Chief David Sabo Kente, a PDP aspirant in the upcoming governorship contest.

He was elected speaker in November 2013, following the death of his precursor, late Mr Haruna Tsokwa.
