Lagos, Nigeria – Popular Nigerian film actress Fathia Balogun was overwhelmed with grief during the final burial ceremony of her mother, Mrs. Gloria Uzoamaka Williams, as emotional scenes from the event circulated widely on social media.

Fathia Balogun is a well known figure in Nigeria’s film industry, popularly referred to as Nollywood, one of the largest movie industries in the world. The actress has appeared in numerous Yoruba language and English language films and is widely recognised by audiences across Nigeria and among the African diaspora.

In a video that has been widely shared online, the actress was seen crying loudly and struggling to contain her emotions during the burial ceremony for her mother. Those present at the event, including close friends, family members, and other mourners, gathered around her in an attempt to comfort her as she mourned the loss.

The burial ceremony marked the final farewell for Mrs. Gloria Uzoamaka Williams, whose death has deeply affected her family and loved ones. Okay News reports that the emotional moment captured in the video reflects the strong bond between the actress and her late mother.

Earlier reports indicated that Mrs. Williams passed away shortly before the actress celebrated her 55th birthday. According to accounts shared at the time, the news of her mother’s death was temporarily withheld from Fathia Balogun until after the birthday celebration so that the milestone occasion would not be overshadowed by the tragic news.

The decision to delay informing her about the loss was reportedly made by relatives who hoped to spare the actress from immediate grief during the celebration. However, the eventual confirmation of the death left her devastated.

The burial ceremony brought together relatives, associates, and supporters who attended to pay their final respects and support the grieving actress during the difficult period.

Across many cultures in Nigeria, burial ceremonies often serve as both a moment of mourning and a gathering where family members and friends honour the memory of the deceased while offering solidarity to those left behind.

The circulating video has since drawn sympathy from fans and followers of the actress, many of whom have expressed condolences to her and her family.

As the burial rites conclude, the actress is expected to continue observing traditional mourning practices while receiving support from family members, friends, and colleagues within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
