Lagos, Nigeria – Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, became the first African female artist to earn a Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Diamond-certified single in the United States on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
Okay News reports that the global music monitoring platform Chart Data announced the certification for the song “Wait For U”, a collaboration with American rapper Future and Canadian rapper Drake, on its X page.
The platform published a statement on the sales of the record. Chart Data said: “US Certifications (@RIAA): Future (@1future) Feat. @Drake & @temsbaby, WAIT FOR U 11x Platinum (11,000,000) ”.
The certification is awarded to songs that surpass 10 million units in the United States. The single has sold over 11 million certified units.
Reports has it that Tems joins Nigerian singer Wizkid as the only African artists to achieve a Diamond single in the country. Wizkid earned his certification through his collaboration with Drake on the song “One Dance”.
