Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed says the number of deaths recorded in the country through terrorism has declined.

He said this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

The Minister cited the 2017 Global Terrorism Index of the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) as an indication that the country is winning the war against terrorism.

According to him, for the third year running, the number of deaths reduced by 13 per cent Year-On-Year, compared with 2015.

He added that the report showed that deaths attributed to Boko Haram fell by 80 per cent in 2016.

“It is fitting, therefore, that the 2017 Global Terrorism Index acknowledges the success recorded by the Multinational Joint Task Force that has been exerting pressure on Boko Haram,” Mohammed said.

He also praised the Nigerian Military “for its patriotism and sacrifice, and noted that they have, once again, made the country a proud member of the comity of nations.”
