KAURU, Nigeria – Suspected terrorists killed 30 people, including eight children, during an attack on Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area in Kaduna State, Nigeria, at 11 p.m. WAT on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Okay News reports that Mr Dogon Rana, Secretary to the Village Head of Naridon, confirmed the casualty figure in an interview on Monday, July 27, 2026.
Rana said the armed group opened fire indiscriminately and set residences on fire while some residents were carrying out evening activities and others had retired for the night, leaving four people in critical condition.
“We have confirmed the killing of 30 people, but we are afraid the death toll may rise because some of the injured are in critical condition,” Rana said.
The official stated that the attack razed multiple homes and businesses, resulting in property losses valued in millions of naira (tens of thousands of USD).
“There is someone in this village who lost five children in one night. The only surviving child is critically injured and fighting for his life. This is a tragedy that has thrown the entire community into mourning,” he said.
“My personal house was burnt down by the attackers. Several shops were also destroyed, including the house belonging to the late Mr Garba. Many families have been left homeless,” he said.
Naridon shares a boundary with Plateau State, and Rana cited the absence of a motorable road as a factor that impeded emergency response and delayed escape efforts.
“There is no accessible road to our community. If our road had been motorable, the casualty figure would not have been this high because help would have reached us on time and many people could have escaped,” he said.
“We are pleading with the government not to abandon us. We need security personnel to protect our people, and we need a good road. These attacks have become too frequent, and our people can no longer sleep with their eyes closed,” he added.
An anonymous resident reported that 22 members of the Rana family were killed during the assault, which lasted approximately three hours without intervention from military posts located two kilometres away in Kamaru and Ungwan Magaji.
“As we speak, only one military officer and four Mobile Police officers have been deployed to the community,” the resident said.
Phone calls and text messages sent to DSP Mansir Hassan, Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna State Police Command, went unanswered as of Monday, July 27, 2026.
