After 13 years of entertaining audiences across Africa, the beloved family sitcom series, ‘The Johnsons,’ is set to bid farewell.
The announcement came through an Instagram post by Charles Inojie, who portrayed Lucky Johnson in the series, expressing gratitude to the cast, crew, and fans for their unwavering support.
Inojie’s heartfelt post on Monday night reflected on the journey of ‘The Johnsons,’ acknowledging the outstanding roles played by everyone involved.
He thanked the producers, Africa Magic, and the entire team for the privilege of being part of such a remarkable project.
The series, which spanned 10 seasons and aired a staggering 1830 episodes, captured the hearts of viewers with its portrayal of the average family in Lagos, Nigeria.
Through its unique characters and humorous plotlines, ‘The Johnsons’ became a household favorite, earning the title of Africa’s most-watched show on television.
However, the end of the series marks the closing chapter of an era filled with “awesomeness and absolute magic,” as Inojie described it. Despite the bittersweet farewell, he expressed gratitude for the support received from fans throughout the journey.
The announcement of the series’ conclusion also comes after the passing of Ada Ameh, who portrayed Emu in the series. Ameh, who passed away on July 17, 2022, battled a mental health issue before her demise.
‘The Johnsons,’ which premiered in 2012, was known for its relatable portrayal of family dynamics and everyday life in Nigeria.
Executive-produced by Rogers Ofime and directed by Thomas Odia and Olusola Roberts, the series left an indelible mark on African television.
