German striker Thomas Muller has announced his retirement from international football following Germany’s exit from Euro 2024. Muller, who turns 35 in September, made the announcement in a video statement, bringing an end to his 14-year career with the national team.

Muller played 131 games for Germany, scoring 45 goals, and was a key member of the team that won the 2014 World Cup. He also won the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup and scored the opening goal in Germany’s 7-1 victory over Brazil in the 2014 World Cup.

Muller’s decision comes after Germany’s 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals, which he hinted would be his last game for the national team. He will continue to play for his club, Bayern Munich, where he is under contract until 2025.

German football association president Bernd Neuendorf praised Muller’s achievements, saying, “His goals and his ingenuity played a key role in shaping one of the most successful periods in the history of our national team.” Mueller’s retirement marks the end of an era for German football, and he will be remembered as one of the country’s greatest players.
