Threads, the brand-new Twitter alternative developed by Meta, has taken the social media world by storm with an astonishing achievement.

Within the first four hours of its launch, Threads recorded an astounding five million sign-ups, surpassing all expectations and leaving industry experts in awe.

This new contender to Elon Musk’s Twitter has already been made available for download on both Android and iOS platforms in 100 countries.

The massive influx of sign-ups demonstrates the growing demand for alternative social media platforms that offer unique features and a fresh user experience.

Meta in a blog post on Wednesday said: “Threads is a new app, built by the Instagram team, for sharing text updates and joining public conversations.

“You log in using your Instagram account and posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.”

Similar to its sibling app Instagram, Threads enables users to follow and connect with friends and creators who share their interests.

This seamless integration with Instagram allows users to extend their social network effortlessly.

Additionally, the app caters to younger users by defaulting users under 16 (or under 18 in specific countries) to private profiles upon joining, ensuring their online safety and privacy.

Threads also offers users a high level of control over their interactions. Users can customize their experience by determining who can mention them or reply to their threads.

Additionally, similar to Instagram’s feature, users can employ hidden words to filter out replies containing specific words, maintaining a positive and constructive conversation environment.

Mark Zuckerberg, the Founder and CEO of Meta, in an announcement on his Threads account, he revealed that “Threads just passed 2 million sign-ups in the first two hours.”

Shortly after, he posted, “Just passed 5 million sign ups in the first four hours…”

In an Instagram post, Zuckerberg said: “Our vision is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for text, ideas, and discussing what’s on your mind. I think the world needs this kind of friendly community, and I’m grateful to all of you who are part of Threads from day one.”
