JOS, NIGERIA — A violent midnight raid by armed attackers has resulted in the deaths of three young men in Pwomol Village, located within the Heipang District of the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria. The victims were members of a local community vigilante group who were performing security watch duties to protect their neighborhood when the assault occurred. This tragic event marks the second time the community has been targeted by violence within a single week, underscoring a period of heightened insecurity in the North Central region of the country.

One other resident suffered life-threatening injuries during the encounter and is currently receiving emergency medical care at a nearby hospital. Okay News reports that the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), a prominent socio-cultural organization representing the youth of the Berom ethnic group, confirmed the details of the incident. Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the association, stated that security forces managed to apprehend a suspect at approximately 1:00 a.m. West African Time (WAT, GMT+1) on Monday, April 6, 2026. The individual was found with bloodstains on his person near the Redemption Camp area and is currently being held by the Nigerian military’s Special Task Force at Sector 4 in Barkin Ladi.

The leadership of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, under National President Dalyop Mwantiri, has issued a strong condemnation of the killings. The group is demanding a transparent investigation by the federal government of Nigeria and its security agencies to ensure the perpetrator and any accomplices face legal consequences. They specifically requested that the suspect in custody be interrogated to reveal the identities of other collaborators involved in the raid.

“The Berom Youth Moulders-Association remains committed to the protection of lives and the pursuit of justice for victims of violent attacks across Berom land and beyond,” the group stated. While the community mourns, the association praised the Special Task Force, known as Operation Enduring Peace, for its quick arrival on the scene. Residents of Plateau State are being urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the police or military as tensions remain high in the district.
