President Bola Tinubu has declared that the federal government’s student loan scheme is set to take off in January 2024.

The president’s remarks were made on Monday at the 29th Nigerian Economic Summit, organized by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).

President Tinubu emphasized that the upcoming scheme would effectively eliminate industrial actions in the nation’s tertiary institutions, offering a promising solution to a persistent issue in the educational sector.

It can be recalled that the president signed the Students Loan (Access to Higher Education) Bill into law on June 12.

The legislation represents a significant step forward, providing Nigerian students with the opportunity to secure loans at interest-free rates, ultimately enhancing access to higher education for a larger portion of the population.

President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to his team and colleagues for their dedicated efforts in building the program, underscoring the collective commitment to fostering a more stable and productive educational environment.

“By January 2024, the new student loan program must commence. To the future of our children and students, we’re saying no more strikes.

“I thank my team and my colleagues for building this programme,” stated President Tinubu, affirming the pivotal role the loan scheme is expected to play in ensuring the seamless progression of academic activities in the country.
