President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has approved the appointment of five new Permanent Secretaries to fill existing vacancies in the Federal Civil Service, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to meritocracy and efficiency in public administration.

The announcement was made in Abuja by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, through a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Eno Olotu.

According to the statement, the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are Ibrahim Ozi representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ezemama Chidiebere from Imo State, Garba Usman for the North Central Geo-Political Zone, Mohammed Ishiyaku for the North East Geo-Political Zone, and Ukaire Chigbowu for the South East Geo-Political Zone.

Okay News reports that the appointments were made following a rigorous and transparent selection process designed to uphold merit and professionalism across Nigeria’s Civil Service structure. The Head of Service emphasized that the selection aligns with the Tinubu administration’s goal of fostering excellence and integrity within the federal workforce.

“The appointments followed a rigorous and transparent selection process in line with the administration’s commitment to meritocracy and excellence in the Civil Service,” Walson-Jack said. She added that the new Permanent Secretaries bring a wealth of experience and expertise that will further strengthen the delivery of public services and support the government’s national development agenda.

Walson-Jack also commended President Tinubu for promoting transparency, competence, and inclusivity in governance. She described the appointments as a reflection of the administration’s dedication to building a results-oriented public sector capable of meeting the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad.

Earlier in September, the Office of the Head of Civil Service had confirmed it began the process of appointing new Permanent Secretaries after Tinubu’s approval. The vacancies arose following retirements in Imo State and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as zonal openings in the North-Central, North-East, and South-East regions due to the creation of new ministries.

The office stated that only qualified officers on Grade Level 17 who have served for at least two years and have no pending disciplinary cases were considered for selection.

These appointments are expected to inject renewed energy into Nigeria’s Civil Service, enhance inter-ministerial coordination, and drive forward the President’s broader vision for a more accountable and efficient governance system.
