President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on the occasion of his 68th birthday, praising his enduring service to the nation and his defining contributions to democratic stability.

In a statement released from the State House and signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu joined Jonathan’s family, friends, and political associates in celebrating the former leader’s legacy and continued commitment to public service.

The President highlighted Jonathan’s trademark simplicity and humility, describing them as qualities that shaped his time in office and continue to influence democratic governance across the continent. Tinubu specifically referenced Jonathan’s widely commended act of statesmanship during the 2015 presidential election — a moment that helped cement Nigeria’s reputation as a maturing democracy.

President Tinubu also reflected on his past engagements with Jonathan, noting the counsel and support the former President offered during key national transitions, particularly in 2010 and ahead of the 2011 presidential poll.

According to the statement, Jonathan’s ongoing international diplomatic work, especially in promoting democratic values and peaceful political transitions in Africa, remains a source of inspiration for leaders within and beyond the region.

Tinubu extended his prayers for Jonathan’s health and well-being, and for the continued prosperity of his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, and their family.
