Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has sent warm birthday congratulations to Dr Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, praising his leadership and reform-driven approach at the federal revenue agency.
The President’s message was conveyed in a statement released on Thursday, January 8, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. In the statement, the Nigerian leader described Adedeji’s tenure as transformative, particularly within the 83-year-old institution responsible for generating revenue for Africa’s most populous nation.
President Tinubu commended the revenue chief for introducing innovative ideas, embracing international best practices, expanding digital automation, and prioritising capacity development among staff members of the service. According to the President, these steps have repositioned the agency for improved efficiency and accountability.
“I salute the NRS Chairman for his visionary and charismatic dedication in restructuring, aligning and managing the revenue profile of the country,” the statement read in part.
Okay News reports that the President specifically highlighted the Nigeria Revenue Service’s achievement of meeting national budgetary targets by the third quarter of 2025, describing the milestone as historic and economically significant. Tinubu noted that the performance contributed to stimulating Nigeria’s economy and strengthening prospects for sustainable growth.
The President also praised Dr Adedeji’s key role in implementing the National Single Window, a federal digital platform designed to simplify import and export procedures. The system has reportedly improved transparency and reduced cargo clearance timelines from an average of twenty one days to just one week, a development seen as critical to trade facilitation in Nigeria.
Beyond his current role, Dr Zacch Adedeji brings extensive professional experience from both the private and public sectors. He previously served as a senior member of the management team at Procter and Gamble, a United States multinational consumer goods corporation. He also held office as Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State, located in southwestern Nigeria.
Adedeji later served as Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council, where he was credited with establishing the National Sugar Institute, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s sugar industry. Before his appointment as Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service in September 2023, he also served as Special Adviser to President Tinubu on revenue matters.
In his birthday message, President Tinubu prayed for continued good health, wisdom, and strength for the revenue chief as he continues to serve Nigeria.
