ADO-EKITI, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday unveiled a series of major infrastructure and economic development projects in Ekiti State, using the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to anti-corruption reforms, institutional strengthening and knowledge-driven economic growth.
Okay News reports that the president, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a one-day working visit to the state, commissioned the new Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Zonal Directorate Office in Ado-Ekiti and inaugurated the 1.2-kilometre Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Flyover. The administration also launched the Ekiti Knowledge Zone project, a technology and innovation hub expected to attract investment, support entrepreneurship and accelerate industrial development in the state.
Speaking at the commissioning of the EFCC facility, Tinubu declared that his government would continue to pursue corruption without compromise, warning that public officials and other individuals involved in graft would face the full weight of the law. He said strong institutions remain essential to national development and pledged continued support for anti-corruption agencies through improved infrastructure, operational resources and policy backing. The president also linked the anti-graft campaign to broader economic reforms aimed at restoring investor confidence, improving fiscal management and strengthening public trust in government.
He praised the leadership of the EFCC under Chairman Ola Olukoyede, noting that recent enforcement actions against cybercrime networks, illicit financial activities and organised criminal operations demonstrate growing institutional effectiveness. Tinubu added that recovered assets have supported government intervention programmes, including student financing and credit initiatives designed to expand economic opportunities for Nigerians.
At the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ekiti Knowledge Zone, the president said Nigeria’s future prosperity would increasingly depend on innovation, education and human capital development rather than natural resources alone. He described the project as consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda and commended Ekiti’s long-standing reputation as a centre of academic excellence and intellectual achievement. Tinubu also acknowledged the support of the African Development Bank and praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji for providing leadership that helped attract the project.
Governor Oyebanji said the Knowledge Zone would serve as a catalyst for technology development, research, entrepreneurship and investment, positioning Ekiti as a leading destination for innovation-driven growth. He noted that the project is expected to create opportunities for businesses, researchers, technology firms and young professionals while strengthening the state’s economic competitiveness.
Meanwhile, Vice President Shettima used the commissioning of the Tinubu Flyover to publicly endorse Governor Oyebanji’s bid for a second term ahead of the June 20 governorship election. He praised the governor’s performance in office and urged residents to support his reelection, while also thanking Ekiti voters for their strong backing of Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election. According to the vice president, increased federal allocations following the removal of fuel subsidies have enabled states to execute major development projects without excessive borrowing, contributing to infrastructure expansion and economic growth across the federation.
The events were attended by senior government officials, lawmakers, security chiefs, traditional rulers and political leaders from across the region.
