ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving living conditions and reducing urban congestion, following the commissioning of newly rehabilitated and expanded roads in the Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Okay News reports that the President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, inaugurated the road network connecting the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction, alongside several adjoining roads. The event came barely a week after the inauguration of the Karu satellite town water supply project. Tinubu said the infrastructure projects form part of the government’s broader urban renewal strategy aimed at easing traffic congestion, stimulating economic activity and improving the quality of life for residents. He noted that the Karu corridor, which serves as a major link between the FCT and neighbouring states, had long suffered from severe traffic challenges that negatively affected productivity and daily life.
The President stated that the upgraded roads, complemented by solar-powered street lighting, drainage systems and pedestrian walkways, would enhance mobility, improve security and support business growth in one of the FCT’s most densely populated areas. He commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for driving the territory’s ongoing infrastructure transformation and praised the contractor, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, for delivering the project to standard. Speaking at the ceremony, Wike described the level of support from the Federal Government as unprecedented, while the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Zulkiflu Abdulkadir, said the project would significantly boost economic and social activities in Karu. The President also urged residents and community leaders to safeguard the infrastructure against vandalism and improper waste disposal to ensure its long-term sustainability.
