Yenagoa, NIGERIA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Bayelsa State on Friday, April 10, 2026, to inaugurate several multi-billion naira infrastructure projects, signaling a new era of collaboration between the federal and state governments.
Okay News gathered that the President, accompanied by dignitaries including former President Goodluck Jonathan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, commissioned the New Yenagoa City Road 1, the 630-meter Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, and the 60-megawatt Bayelsa Independent Power Project in Elebele.
These projects, described as “legacy achievements” by the state government, are expected to significantly boost economic activity, improve connectivity to riverine communities, and provide a stable power supply for industrial growth.
Addressing a large crowd of residents, President Tinubu commended Governor Douye Diri for his “purposeful leadership” and for prioritizing the needs of the people over political optics. “Standing in Bayelsa today, what I saw was more than infrastructure,” the President remarked. “At every level, government must stay focused on what works for people, and our administration will continue to collaborate with states serious about putting people first.”
Governor Diri expressed gratitude for the President’s visit, noting that the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, which spans the River Nun, fulfills a developmental promise made to the people of the region over sixty years ago. The state government had declared Friday a work-free day to allow citizens to welcome the President and celebrate the completion of the projects, which also included the 42-kilometre Sagbama–Ekeremor Road.
The visit is seen as a major milestone for the state, with officials expressing optimism that the new infrastructure will attract foreign investment and further solidify Bayelsa’s position as a hub for economic development in the Niger Delta.
