Tinubu Congratulates Oyebanji on Ekiti Re-Election Victory

NIGERIANigeria‘s President, Bola Tinubu, congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Sunday, June 21, 2026, following his re-election victory in the governorship election held on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Nigeria‘s Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, released an official statement on behalf of the presidency detailing the commendation.

Okay News reports that Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission declared Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the poll after he collected 319,224 votes across the 16 local government areas of the state. He defeated his closest opponents, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress.

The presidency stated that the incumbent administrator achieved a historic successive term within the region. “With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back,” the statement said.

The official statement also noted the participation of other political contestants in the democratic process. “The President also commends all those who contested the election with the governor for exercising their democratic rights, saying it is now time to rally round Oyebanji in the task of taking Ekiti to the next level of governance,” the statement added.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Ekiti State Government to deliver public services under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
