Tinubu Names 39-Year-Old Professor Segun Aina as JAMB’s Youngest Registrar

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

ABUJA, NigeriaNigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the appointment in a State House statement issued on May 21, 2026.

Okay News reports that Aina will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term as Registrar of JAMB is expected to end on July 31, 2026.

The Presidency described Aina as an academic and systems expert with experience in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and institutional reform within the public sector.

Aina, who will turn 40 in July 2026, holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, alongside a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina reportedly began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained experience in admissions systems and institutional data processes.

The Presidency said his professional work over the past 15 years has focused on technology-driven policy implementation and operational reform across government institutions.

“At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors and will now make history as JAMB’s youngest registrar,” the statement said.

Aina has also worked as a consultant for examination bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), advising on examination integrity, ICT systems, and digital process optimisation.

He is a member of professional organisations including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

President Tinubu said he expects the incoming registrar to build on reforms implemented under Oloyede’s administration and strengthen the operations of the examination body.

“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor,” the statement added.
