Lagos, Nigeria – Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has dismissed claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu betrayed him during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking during a television interview, Saraki said it would be unfair to blame Tinubu for the political and legal challenges he faced while serving as Senate President. He explained that contrary to popular belief, Tinubu did not wield the level of influence many attributed to him within Buhari’s government at the time.
Okay News reports that Saraki specifically addressed issues surrounding his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal and investigations linked to the Offa robbery case, insisting that Tinubu was not involved in the decisions or actions that led to those developments. According to him, the perception that the current president orchestrated his challenges is inaccurate.
The former Senate President maintained that his actions while in office were guided by what he believed to be in the best interest of the country, even though they later resulted in what he described as political persecution. He stressed that Tinubu neither initiated nor played a role in the processes that led to the allegations and legal battles he faced during that period.
Saraki’s comments come amid ongoing political discussions ahead of future elections, as key figures continue to clarify past alliances and disagreements within Nigeria’s political landscape.
