Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria‘s President Bola Tinubu ordered the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate a fictitious presidential intervention council on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Okay News reports that the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, issued a statement confirming the directive and giving the anti-graft agency 30 days to submit a comprehensive report.
The statement established that the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council was never created by the Federal Government and that an individual identified as Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew falsely claimed to be a presidential appointee heading the council.
“The directive follows the discovery of the fictitious PFIPC, which was never established by the Federal Government of Nigeria and has no basis in any law, presidential instrument, executive approval, or other lawful act of Government,” Onanuga said.
The investigation will cover forged appointment letters, the use of false claims to seek visa facilitation, and the opening of multiple bank accounts. Tinubu instructed all ministries, departments, and agencies to provide the commission with all relevant information required to identify weaknesses in government procedures.
“The integrity of the Presidency and the institutions of the Federal Government must be protected against impersonation, forgery, abuse of official identity and the exploitation of weaknesses in the public service,” Onanuga said.
