ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting local and foreign investments as the sales office and experience centre for the Abuja City Walk project officially opened.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the launch on Thursday, Tinubu said Nigeria was open for business and was improving its legal, physical and financial systems to protect investors and reduce bureaucratic barriers. Okay News reports that the President described the project as part of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu said the development showed that the administration was moving from promises to execution, while describing Abuja City Walk as an example of what could be achieved through cooperation between government and private investors.
The President also said the project’s Free Trade Zone status would help support regional commerce, medical tourism, premium retail and hospitality. He praised the FCT Administration for transforming the Abuja Technology Village corridor, which he said had remained largely inactive for about two decades.
Tinubu urged the FCT authorities and project partners to maintain the pace of development and ensure that the opening of the experience centre leads to faster construction work on the site. He also said the government was working to end land speculation and abandoned major projects in Abuja.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the project reflected the administration’s goal of attracting foreign direct investment and creating jobs. He added that while government was responsible for creating an enabling environment, Nigerians also had a role to play by supporting policies that promote continuity.
Project officials said Abuja City Walk would feature residential facilities, shopping malls, schools, worship centres, recreational areas and a green corridor, with the aim of creating a city-within-a-city. The event ended with a guided tour of the experience centre by the Vice President and other dignitaries.
