President Bola Tinubu has announced the dismissal of Alexander Okoh, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), and Babatunde Irukera, the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The decision was made public on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement on Monday.

Alexander Okoh, who assumed the position of BPE DG on April 13, 2017, and Babatunde Irukera, who had been serving as the EVC and CEO of FCCPC, faced termination as part of a broader plan to restructure and reposition critical federal agencies. This restructuring aims to enhance the protection of the rights of Nigerian consumers and contribute more significantly to the nation’s economic growth.

Ngelale explained that the dismissals are in line with the administration’s commitment to creating a robust foundation for the nation’s growth-enabling institutions. The move signifies a strategic effort to revamp key agencies for increased efficiency and effectiveness.

“The two dismissed Chief Executives are directed to hand over to the next most senior officer in their respective agencies, pending the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers,” Ngelale stated.

According to Ngelale, Okoh and Irukera’s sack takes immediate effect.
