President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice-President Kashim Shettima to travel to Kebbi State on Wednesday to console families affected by the abduction of schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, and to reassure parents that the federal government is working urgently to secure their release.
Okay News reports that the president also extended condolences to the Nigerian military following the death of several soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was killed while combating insurgents in Borno State.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
President Tinubu, who has been fully briefed on both incidents, described the Kebbi abduction as deeply distressing, especially given earlier intelligence warnings suggesting a possible bandit attack.
He commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts taken to prevent the kidnapping, noting that the breach underscores the urgent need for stronger community collaboration.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am depressed with the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” the president said.
He added that the abduction of innocent schoolgirls is heartbreaking and has ordered security agencies to “act swiftly and bring the girls back to Kebbi State.”
Tinubu also urged community leaders and residents, particularly those in areas vulnerable to banditry and insurgency, to share timely intelligence with security forces to strengthen national security.
“Our security forces cannot succeed in protecting us if the people don’t cooperate and share information that will help them keep our communities safe. Your cooperation is crucial in our fight against these security challenges,” he said.
