President Bola Tinubu has altered his official itinerary, postponing his planned visit to Kaduna State to instead travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. This change is part of intensified efforts by the presidency to address the ongoing conflict and violence that have severely impacted communities in Benue.

Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, disclosed the update in a statement released on Monday. He explained that the purpose of the visit is for President Tinubu to “assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction.”

Originally, the President was scheduled to be in Kaduna on the same day to commission several state government projects. However, this visit has now been deferred to Thursday, June 19, 2025.

During his stay in Benue, Tinubu plans to engage extensively with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political figures, religious leaders, community representatives, and youth organizations. The goal is to collaboratively seek durable solutions to the hostilities that have plagued the state.

In preparation for this critical visit, the President has already dispatched key government officials to Benue. These include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees.

The statement further noted, “The President is expected to hold a town hall meeting with all stakeholders during the visit,” underscoring the administration’s commitment to inclusive dialogue.

President Tinubu has consistently condemned the violence in Benue and urged all leaders and residents to embrace peace, love, and mutual understanding. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of victims and those affected by the crisis.
