Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm greetings to Christians and Muslims as the 2026 observances of Lent and Ramadan commence simultaneously, describing the rare coincidence as a reminder of Nigeria’s shared spiritual heritage.
According to a State House press statement issued on February 18, 2026, and made available to Okay News, the President noted that the alignment of the two sacred seasons underscores the common values that bind Nigerians together as people of faith under one God. He highlighted Lent as a solemn period of fasting, abstinence and penitence for Christians, commemorating the example of Jesus Christ before His crucifixion.
He also described Ramadan as a sacred month of total submission to God for Muslims, marked by sacrifice, devotion, charity and spiritual reflection, in line with one of the five pillars of Islam.
President Tinubu urged citizens to use the period to promote peace, unity, stability and good neighbourliness, while praying for Nigeria’s continued progress and security. He concluded by expressing hope that the lessons and blessings of both seasons would endure in the lives of all Nigerians.
