Tony Elumelu receives Nigerian Army Appreciation Award from Buhari

Tony O. Elumelu, the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa Plc and Transcorp Nigeria Plc, has received the Nigerian Army Appreciation Award from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Olumelu was presented with the award at the 2022 Chief of Army Staff Conference held on Monday in Sokoto State.

The UBA chairman got the honour in recognition of the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s economic empowerment of the wives of slain soldiers, who lost their lives while on duty to serve and protect the country.

At the event, Buhari also presented the Nigerian Army Recognition Awards to six Nigerians including the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu; the Founder and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote; and the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd).

Others were the Founder and Chairman, Zenith Bank Plc, Jim Ovia; and the former Nigeria Ambassador to Benin Republic and former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd).
