French energy giant TotalEnergies has signed a 21-year power supply agreement with Alphabet-owned Google to provide renewable electricity for the tech company’s data centres in Malaysia.
The deal will see TotalEnergies supply 1 terawatt hour (TWh) of clean energy generated from the Citra Energies solar power plant, which is scheduled to begin construction in early 2026. The power supply contract is expected to take effect in the first quarter of next year.
The agreement highlights growing energy demand from major technology firms as they expand data centre capacity to support artificial intelligence development, a trend that is increasingly stretching the limits of domestic electricity utilities worldwide.
In a related move, TotalEnergies also signed a separate renewable energy deal in November to supply power to Google’s data centres in Ohio, United States, further strengthening the companies’ clean energy partnership.
