A student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) was feared dead following a lone accident that occurred on the campus on Thursday. The incident involved a ten-seater commercial bus carrying passengers from the campus to the town after the day’s activities.

Kunle Akogun, the director of corporate affairs at UNILORIN, issued a statement confirming the accident and providing details about the victims. “The management of the University of Ilorin is saddened to announce the occurrence of a motor accident on campus this afternoon,” the statement read.

The accident resulted in injuries to several passengers. Akogun reported that four individuals sustained minor injuries and were treated and subsequently discharged from the University Health Centre. Five other victims, including two males, two females, and the driver, are currently receiving treatment at the same facility.

“As soon as it occurred, the University Management immediately commenced rescue operations, and all the victims were moved to the University Health Centre. They were attended to by a team of medical personnel at the University Health Centre,” Akogun stated. “One of them needed advanced treatment and was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) after he was stabilized.”

Unfortunately, one of the passengers was declared dead upon arrival at the health center. The deceased’s body has been transferred to the morgue, and the university management is working to contact the next of kin.

“The Management regrets this unfortunate incident, condoles with the family of the deceased, and prays God to comfort the family while we pray for a quick recovery of the injured victims,” the statement concluded.
