By Promise Amadi

Scottish Premier League giants Glasgow Rangers have signed former Liverpool defender, Jon Flanagan on a free transfer.

The defender was released from his boyhood club earlier in the month, and has joined up with his new team on a summer training camp in Spain.

The full-back will join up with his former captain at the Reds, Steven Gerrard, who will be his manager at the Scottish side.

Flanagan, who joined has joined the club on a two year-deal, told the club’s website “I’m delighted to be here. When I got the call from my agent and then spoke to Stevie, it was a no-brainer for me.”

The player, who played over 50 games for his former club, has been plagued by injuries over the last few years after making a promising start to his Anfield career.

He also provoked outrage earlier this year, after it emerged that he had been charged with the assault of his girlfriend.

Rangers play their first game of the season in a Europa League first-round qualification match at Ibrox.
