KAURA NAMODA, Nigeria – Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled multiple kidnap attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Dr Aminu Yusuf, his family, and 22 other civilians during separate operations.
Okay News reports that the first incident occurred in the early hours of July 28, 2026, after troops responded to a distress call from Tsohon-Tasha Street in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. According to the military, armed terrorists had attacked the rector’s residence, killing his private security guard and injuring another resident before attempting to abduct Dr Yusuf and members of his family.
Military personnel reportedly arrived at the scene and engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat and abandon the victims. The rector and his family were rescued without injury during the exchange.
In a separate operation later the same day, troops responding to another emergency call in Tungan Dorawa, Barkeji Village, disrupted an attempted mass abduction despite difficult terrain. Security forces also intervened in another attack targeting a businessman, Alhaji Azaria, rescuing him along with 21 other civilians who had been abducted from nearby homes.
The military also announced the arrest of Falalu Yusuf, a 45-year-old suspected informant accused of assisting the terrorists. He has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation. Operation FANSAN YAMMA said it remains committed to sustaining operations aimed at improving security and protecting communities across Zamfara State and the wider North West region.
