NIGERIA: Troops of the Nigerian Army, with the support of the Nigerian Air Force, rescued Amina Abubakar, the widow of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, from bandits on Monday.
Okay News reports that Nigeria‘s Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, confirmed the operation to recover the widow, who was abducted alongside her husband a few weeks ago. Uba said, “The rescue operation followed intensified search-and-rescue efforts conducted by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma.”
Uba said, “During sustained offensive operations and pressure mounted on the criminal elements, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, leading to the successful recovery of Mrs Abubakar.”
The bandits shot Amina Abubakar before fleeing the advancing military forces. Uba said, “Troops will continue ongoing operations to track down and neutralise the perpetrators, while intensifying efforts to rid affected communities of terrorists not just in Katsina but in the entire nation.”
The Armed Forces of Nigeria stated it is providing necessary support to the family. Amina Abubakar was evacuated to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving medical attention.
