Abuja, Nigeria – A truck loaded with sand has crashed into the main gate of the Gombe State Government House, causing significant structural damage but leaving no fatalities.
The incident occurred around 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday when the vehicle reportedly lost control and rammed into the gate, which is still under construction as part of ongoing renovation projects initiated by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya. The facility has not yet been officially commissioned.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was moving at speed before the driver suddenly lost control and veered off the road. A trader who witnessed the incident described how people nearby quickly fled the scene to avoid being hit, while a commercial motorcyclist noted that the situation could have been far worse if pedestrians had been closer to the gate.
Okay News reports that the impact severely damaged parts of the newly installed structure, bending sections of the multi-million-naira gate. A security aide at the scene confirmed that the gate forms part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Government House complex.
Authorities also disclosed that the truck is believed to belong to Tricata Nigeria Ltd, although full details of the vehicle were not immediately available. The driver sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Officials have reiterated that no lives were lost in the incident, even as renovation works continue at the Government House as part of broader infrastructure upgrades across the state.
