Washington, USA – US President Donald Trump has deleted a social media post that appeared to depict him as a Jesus Christ-like figure following widespread criticism, including from within his own support base.
Okay News gathered that the image, published on Sunday, April 12, 2026, showed Trump in flowing robes touching a sick patient against the backdrop of an American flag. The post surfaced shortly after the President launched a verbal attack on Pope Leo XIV, calling the American-born pontiff “WEAK on crime” due to the Pope’s vocal opposition to the ongoing US-Israeli military operations against Iran.
Responding to the backlash on Monday, Trump claimed he had misinterpreted the AI-generated imagery. “I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor, and had to do with Red Cross,” Trump stated. “It’s supposed to be me as a doctor making people better, and I do make people better.”
The incident has further strained relations between the White House and the Vatican. Iran’s leadership also weighed in, condemning the post as “unchristian” and an “assault on the advocacy for peace.” Despite the social media controversy and his recent order for a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump suggested that diplomatic backchannels remain open, claiming he had been “called by the other side” and that Iran “wants a deal.”
