Trump Portrait to Feature in Limited-Edition 250th Anniversary US Passports

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Washington D.C., UNITED STATES — The US State Department confirmed that it will issue a limited run of commemorative passports featuring the likeness of President Donald Trump to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The redesign will make Trump the first sitting president to have his portrait featured inside the nation’s primary travel document.

According to mockups confirmed by the State Department, the new design features President Trump’s portrait superimposed over the text of the Declaration of Independence on the inside front cover, accompanied by his signature in gold. This replaces the traditional imagery of Francis Scott Key at Fort McHenry.

Okay News gathered that the back cover will feature a John Trumbull painting of the Founding Fathers and an 18th-century 13-star American flag with “250” inscribed at its center.

The commemorative passports will be the default document issued at the Washington Passport Agency beginning this summer, coinciding with the July 4 celebrations. While initial reports from The Bulwark suggested a run of only 25,000 copies, State Department officials have characterized that specific number as “fake news,” stating that the design will be available as long as supplies last. For American citizens who prefer the standard design, the State Department clarified that existing designs will remain the default for all online renewals and applications processed at agencies outside of Washington D.C.

This initiative is part of a broader “branding” of the Semiquincentennial celebrations. Other commemorative measures include new 2026 National Park passes featuring Trump alongside George Washington and plans to include Trump’s signature on new US paper currency. Additionally, the Commission of Fine Arts recently approved a 24-karat gold commemorative coin featuring the President’s profile and the phrase “In God We Trust.”
