Washington D.C., USA – US President Donald Trump has postponed threatened military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days, citing ongoing talks aimed at a complete resolution of hostilities in the Middle East.
Okay News reports that Trump claimed the US delegation in the negotiations was represented by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The President stated that if the talks proceed successfully, the conflict could be settled, but he warned that the US would resume military action if the discussions fail. The sudden announcement immediately caused global oil and gas prices to plunge following weeks of severe market tension.
The temporary de-escalation comes just hours before the expiration of a 48-hour ultimatum Trump issued over the weekend, in which he threatened to obliterate Iran’s power network if Tehran did not reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz to global shipping. The UK’s Keir Starmer echoed the US position during a Sunday call with Trump, agreeing that reopening the Strait is essential for resuming global trade.
However, the Iranian government has strongly refuted Trump’s claims regarding the negotiations. According to statements from the Iranian foreign ministry and state media, Tehran has flatly denied that any such talks with Washington have taken place.
