WASHINGTON, United States — U.S. President Donald Trump said he is consulting with senior advisers at the White House Situation Room as he considers a final decision on a proposed agreement to extend the ongoing ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
The proposed arrangement follows preliminary talks between American and Iranian negotiators in Qatar aimed at extending the fragile ceasefire by an additional 60 days while opening fresh diplomatic discussions over Iran’s nuclear activities.
Okay News reports that Trump stated the agreement would require Iran to permanently abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons and ensure the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping. He added that U.S. military restrictions in the area would only be eased after a formal agreement is reached.
The U.S. president also insisted that stockpiles of highly enriched uranium allegedly buried during previous American strikes must be recovered and destroyed under international monitoring. According to Trump, no sanctions relief or financial concessions would be granted until Washington is satisfied with Iran’s compliance.
Despite ongoing negotiations, resistance remains strong within Iran’s political establishment. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf criticized the talks, saying Tehran does not trust foreign guarantees and would continue relying on its military strength rather than diplomatic assurances.
