US President Donald Trump will attend the signing ceremony of a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia during the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, later this month.

Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, Mohamad Hasan, confirmed on Tuesday that Trump will join regional leaders at the event, scheduled to take place from October 26 to 28, marking the formal end to months of cross-border hostilities.

The conflict between Thailand and Cambodia erupted in July, leading to the deadliest clashes between both nations in decades. More than 40 people were killed, and about 300,000 civilians were displaced before a ceasefire was reached with partial mediation by the United States.

“President Trump is looking forward to witnessing the Thailand–Cambodia peace deal,” Hasan said during a press briefing in Kuala Lumpur.

Since the ceasefire, both countries have accused each other of violating truce terms, but diplomatic channels have remained open, with Washington playing a behind-the-scenes role in restoring stability.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet credited Trump’s mediation efforts and announced his nomination of the US leader for a Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “innovative diplomacy” in helping end the clashes.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed last week that he received a personal letter from Trump expressing optimism about lasting peace between the two neighbouring nations.

The upcoming peace pact is expected to be one of the key highlights of the ASEAN Summit, as Southeast Asian leaders push for greater regional stability amid global political shifts.
