United States President Donald Trump will exempt smartphones, computers, and several key technology components from the newly announced 145% tariffs on Chinese imports, Okay.ng reports.

This was revealed in a guidance issued by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, offering a major relief to American tech companies that heavily rely on Chinese manufacturing, especially industry giants like Apple Inc.

The exclusions include critical hardware and components such as:

  • Smartphones
  • Laptops and desktop computers
  • Semiconductors
  • Solar cells
  • Flat-panel TV displays
  • Flash drives
  • Memory cards

Although these items could potentially face some duties in the future, officials say the tariffs will be far below the 145% rate previously imposed across a wide array of Chinese goods.

The earlier tariff hike, announced by Trump this month, had triggered fears of supply chain disruptions and cost increases in the tech sector.
