CALIFORNIA, United States – United States President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Iran will face severe military consequences unless the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
Okay News reports that Trump issued the warning during an interview with Fox News regarding ongoing negotiations over the maritime route.
News outlet Axios reported that the United States, Iran, and Oman are negotiating a 60-day agreement to allow safe passage through the strait without toll payments.
The proposed maritime arrangement designates a northern shipping lane for traffic entering the gulf, while outbound vessels would utilize a southern lane within the territorial waters of Oman.
The closure stems from a conflict that began on February 28 after the United States and Israel launched military strikes on Iran.
“We’re having very good discussions,” Trump said. “The only thing that matters is action. And they want to make a deal. We’ll see what happens.”
Speaking before boarding Air Force One for a flight to Las Vegas, Trump said he believed an agreement could happen “tomorrow or the next day.”
