Arsenal moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League after securing a dramatic 2–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, sealed by a stoppage-time own goal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday night.
The Gunners appeared set to drop points when Wolves substitute Tolu Arokodare headed home a 90th-minute equaliser, cancelling out an earlier own goal by Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. However, Arsenal responded immediately, restoring their lead in the 94th minute when Bukayo Saka’s cross was inadvertently headed into the net by defender Yerson Mosquera under pressure from Gabriel Jesus.
The late winner sparked wild celebrations and ensured Mikel Arteta’s side capitalised on Manchester City’s slip, tightening their grip on the title race.
Wolves had frustrated Arsenal for long spells, limiting the league leaders to no shots on target in the first half and creating chances of their own, including a one-on-one opportunity that forced a save from David Raya.
Arsenal eventually broke the deadlock in the second half when Saka’s corner struck the post and rebounded off Johnstone into the net. The hosts looked in control until Wolves struck late, only for Mosquera’s unfortunate intervention to swing the match back in Arsenal’s favour moments later.
Bukayo Saka was named Player of the Match after delivering the decisive assist and tormenting the Wolves defence throughout.
The win comes as a major boost for Arsenal following last weekend’s defeat to Aston Villa, although the evening was marred by a hamstring injury to Ben White, who was forced off in the first half.
For Wolves, the defeat extends a miserable run, marking their 10th consecutive loss in all competitions and a fifth straight defeat under manager Rob Edwards.
