Argentina have booked their place in the final of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup after edging Colombia 1–0 in a tightly contested semi-final on Thursday.
The match, played at the Estadio Nacional de Santiago, was decided by a 74th-minute strike from Mateo Silvetti. The forward found the back of the net after Gianluca Prestianni’s clever run and cross from the right created the opportunity.
Colombia battled hard to level the score but their efforts were frustrated by Argentina’s solid defence. Their task became even more difficult when a red card reduced them to ten men late in the game.
Okay News reports that Argentina, who have lifted the U-20 World Cup title six times, will now face Morocco in the final on Monday, October 20. This will be Argentina’s eighth appearance in the tournament’s final.
Morocco, also known as the Atlas Cubs, made history by reaching their first-ever U-20 World Cup final after defeating France on penalties. They became the third African team to achieve this milestone, following in the footsteps of Ghana and Nigeria.
During their semi-final clash at the Elías Figueroa Brande Stadium, Morocco took the lead in the 32nd minute when a penalty from Yassir Zabiri was deflected into the net by French defender Lisandru Olmeta. France equalised through Lucas Michal in the 59th minute, and the match ended 1–1 after extra time.
In the penalty shootout, Morocco converted six of their kicks while France managed five. Successful Moroccan scorers included Younes El Bahraoui, Ilias Boumassaoudi, Yassir Zabiri, Mohamed Hamony, Saad El Haddad, and Byar.
France and Colombia will meet in the third-place match on Saturday, October 18.
