The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated 50 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nigeria, aimed at providing relief to victims of the recent floods across the country, Okay.ng reports.

The aid was officially handed over to the Nigerian government at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Office of the National Security Adviser were present to receive the relief materials.

Salem Alshamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, delivered the supplies on behalf of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Al Nahyan. In his remarks, Ambassador Alshamsi emphasized the UAE’s ongoing commitment to supporting nations affected by natural disasters.

“This gesture demonstrates our strong resolve to stand by nations in times of crisis,” Alshamsi said, highlighting the importance of international solidarity in disaster response.

Dr. Ahmed Dunoma, the Permanent Secretary in Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of President Bola Tinubu. He acknowledged the strong diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the UAE, stating:

“We are grateful for this support, which underscores the strong ties between our two nations.”

Zubaida Umar, the Director-General of NEMA, also thanked the UAE government, noting the significance of the aid in bolstering Nigeria’s recovery efforts.

“This generous donation will undoubtedly complement the bold steps taken by the Federal Government to provide relief and help flood victims rebuild their lives,” Umar said.

The UAE’s contribution is expected to provide critical support to those affected by the devastating floods, easing the strain on local resources and enhancing Nigeria’s preparedness for future disasters.
