UBA-Libreville-Bank

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has given its support to resuscitate the Professorial Chair of Finance at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with a donation of N52.904million.

At a brief ceremony held in the Senate building of the institution, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UBA, Mr Phillips Oduoza said the move was as a result of the bank’s desire to support human capital and infrastructure development in resuscitating the Chair.

According to him, the resuscitated Chair which was inaugurated in January 1972 is the first in the university as well as in Nigeria. The Professorial Chair also led to the establishment of Finance Department in UNILAG which produced the first set of Finance graduates in Nigeria.

Oduoza who is an alumnus of UNILAG said, supporting the university and other tertiary institutions represent a major milestone in UBA’s mission to support the development of quality human capital as well as filling the widening infrastructure gap in Nigeria. He assured that UBA would continue in its corporate social responsibility initiatives in several universities and colleges of education where it has supported in establishing world-class Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Rahamon Bello, commended the management of UBA for the kind gesture to resuscitate the Professorial Chair. He promised to judiciously apply the fund for the various purposes to be spelt out by a board which will be constituted by the institution and the board of the organization.
