London, England – UK Prime Minister has expressed concern following the security incident at Manchester Central Mosque, describing it as troubling, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Reacting to the development, Starmer said he was worried about the impact the incident could have on Muslim communities, noting that Ramadan is traditionally a period of peace, prayer and reflection. He also commended mosque volunteers and emergency responders for their swift intervention.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the government’s commitment to safeguarding places of worship, stating that up to £40 million has been allocated to strengthen security at mosques, Muslim schools and community centres. He assured that authorities would continue taking steps to ensure communities across the UK can live safely and without fear.
The incident occurred around 8:40pm on Tuesday in the Victoria Park area of Manchester. According to Greater Manchester Police, the suspect, believed to be in his 40s, entered the mosque alongside another man. He was later arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and Class B drugs. Police confirmed he remains in custody for questioning, while efforts are ongoing to trace the second individual. Authorities said the case is not being treated as terror-related, and no injuries were reported.
