In a powerful New Year’s Eve address, President Volodymyr Zelensky informed the Ukrainian people that while the nation is eager for peace after nearly four years of conflict, he will not consent to any agreement that compromises Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Speaking from his office on January 1, 2026, the President emphasized that his administration is focused on achieving a “strong” peace that ensures permanent security rather than a temporary pause in hostilities.

Okay News reports that Zelensky characterized the current state of peace negotiations as being “90% ready,” following intensive diplomatic efforts and recent discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida.

However, he noted that the remaining 10% involves critical territorial disputes that will ultimately determine the future of Europe. While Ukraine seeks to freeze the map at the current battle lines, Russia continues to demand further withdrawals from eastern regions—a condition Zelensky dismissed as deceptive diplomacy.

The President acknowledged the deep exhaustion felt by his citizens but remained firm that fatigue would not lead to surrender. He argued that signing a weak deal would only serve to fuel future aggression, stressing that every international phone call and policy decision is currently geared toward securing a peace that lasts for years rather than weeks.

As the conflict enters its fourth year, the Ukrainian leadership remains committed to a resolution that preserves the integrity of the state.
