JOS, Plateau State, Nigeria – The University of Jos has ordered the immediate evacuation of students from its hostels following rising security concerns in Jos.
Okay News reports that the directive was issued by the Vice Chancellor, Tanko Ishaya, after what the institution described as “near chaotic scenarios” on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, which heightened tensions and posed risks to students’ safety.
To facilitate the process, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, approved transportation arrangements, with vehicles authorised to operate even during curfew hours to ensure a smooth evacuation.
According to the schedule released by the university, students residing within Jos and its environs were to be evacuated from 3:00 p.m. (GMT+1) on Wednesday, April 1, while those whose families live outside the city are scheduled to depart from 8:00 a.m. (GMT+1) on Thursday, April 2.
The university management assured that adequate security measures have been deployed to safeguard the hostels and the campus, adding that efforts are ongoing to maintain safety across the institution. Further updates, it said, will be communicated as necessary.
