US Launches Airstrikes Against Iran Following Deaths of Troops

Published

WASHINGTON, United States — The military launched retaliatory airstrikes against Iran on Sunday, July 19, 2026, following the deaths of two American service members in Jordan.

Okay News reports that the United States Central Command stated the attacks aimed to swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members.

The Iranian army announced on Sunday it targeted two US bases in Kuwait with drones, hitting an ammunition depot at Camp Udairi and radar systems at the Ali Al Salem Air Base. Iran’s central military commander, Ali Abdollahi, warned that further aggression would face a “decisive and devastating response”, according to a statement carried by state television.

The military stated that the two service members were killed Friday as they defended against ballistic missile and drone attacks, bringing the confirmed number of US military fatalities to 16 since strikes started the war on February 28. Another service member remains missing in action.

The Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim reported US attacks on Sirik, a port located on the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran. State news agency IRNA reported Saturday that US attacks killed three people and wounded eight in the southern province of Hormozgan.
